Kelsie Rumsey Brian Wolf Sociology 260: Crime and Deviance May 7, 2017 Double Jeopardy The criminal justice system isn’t perfect, much like any largescale system it has its flaws. Sadly, some of the criminal justice system flaws are bigger than others and the smaller ones don’t get any attention from the public and go unresolved. That is not to say that all the problems with the criminal justice system shouldn’t be dealt with, but some of the problems aren’t even being considered. A problem that has rocked the boat on a public scale, but has never really been questioned would be the flawed double jeopardy law. The law that protects people from double jeopardy is a difficult one to undo because it is sealed in the U.S. Constitution. O.J. then goes on about that night claiming he doesn’t remember the actual attack itself. He was quoted, â€Å"Now I was standing in Nicole s courtyard , in the dark, listening to the loud, rhythmic, accelerated beating of my own heart. I put my left hand to my heart and my shirt felt strangely wet. I looked down at myself. For several moments, I couldn t get my mind around what I was seeing. The whole front of me was covered in blood, but it didn t compute† (Simpson). There you have it, a hypothetical confession from a man that had committed two horrible murders but wouldn’t pay for the crime because of a flawed law. It is summed up by Vermont General Attorney, William Sorrell, â€Å"You only get one bite of the apple† (Findlaw, â€Å"Suspect confesses to murder after acquittal.†). There will be no justice for Nicole and Ron Goldman because the court can’t charge O.J. again because he was found to be not guilty the first time. The O.J. Simpson case is just a little bit of proof that the amendment needs to be changed. The confession of a criminal should be enough to send them to prison regardless i f they have been tried and found not guilty. A solution to this flawed law would be changing the law to have this exception. This supports the fact that he is smart after all, even though he his failing most of his classes. Often times, a teenager wants something so bad, they come up with crazy and somewhat stupid ideas and plans to help them obtain that something. Maybe this is because he does not want to try or maybe he wants to fit in with others who would not accept him if he was smart. In this metaphor, he is comparing himself the ducks in Central Park when the lagoon freezes over. What Holden is really saying is the fact that he would not know where to go if he stays living in a place full of phonies and rude people. I like both seasons because of what all you can do in these seasons. I go fishing a lot in spring and summer. In these two seasons there’re lots of differences, but I believe that there are a lot more similarities. When comparing two items you are showing how they are alike and contrasting you are showing how they’re different. When helping readers understand issues it’s useful to compare and contrast to get them to understand better. Making decisions, narrowing down choices, and evaluating options are also helpful in understanding. You may make a table of some kind or create a list to see what all the items picked have in common or don’t have in common, the differences. You don’t necessarily make the decision yourself or attempt to influence the reader one way or the other when in a comparison-and-contrast paper. Your paper will be a persuasive and a combination of expository writing if you do any of the above things. When I write a paper I like for my readers to enjoy what they are reading, so that they get into the story or paper. Now, we’ll go on to the two seasons that I picked for the reader to enjoy reading about the differences and similarities. Putting these two seasons together and comparing and contrasting them were very easy in some ways, but hard in other ways. I enjoyed comparing and contrasting these two seasons because the seasons are two seasons we all enjoy together especially my family and friends. Every year my family gets together and we have a big picnic in the summer time around the 4th of July and we have so much fun we never forget about the 4th of July. We get to have are fun, swimming, picnicking, and watching the fireworks at the end of the night. This time of year is the most fun for my family and me. In the spring time I get together with my boyfriend and some of his family members and we go fishing together every spring. Every spring is like a social gathering with the boyfriend’s parents and cousins, but we all have lots of fun fishing and then we go home and have our picnic outside. These are two seasons I will never forget because I do these things every year at the same time of year. In the winter and fall times it’s not as interesting for us because we aren’t kids no more, but I do have fun with my niece and nephew in the snow and leaves at that time of year, but even those two love the spring and summer time because we can go swimming and do lots of other fun things.
